Major Consumers 




Mammals in the montane have adapted to the seasons in different ways. Some animals migrate to lower elevation during the winter. Others grow thick coats to get them through the winter.Some even change colors.

Chipmunks live in wood lands, foot hills and the mountain mixed forest. Some of the chipmunk's predators are the red fox, hawks, coyotes, and raccoons.

The red fox's diet is made up of mostly chipmunks, mice, and voles. They can live around 5 years. Red foxes hunt rabbits, birds and other small game.

Birds

The forest light up with birds from late spring and early fall. The large trees in the forest make great homes for the birds.When the snow comes, the birds migrate to warmer place’s.

The grey jay is one of the most intrepid birds in North America. They are always curious and constantly looking for food. Grey jays eat about anything from berries to small animals. During the summer, grey jays hoard food in trees to get them through the winter.
  
             Predator

The great horned owl is the most common owl in America. Like other owls  the great horned owl has a incredible digestive system. Sometimes they swallow their prey whole. Owls are fierce birds and incredibly protective parents. The great horned owl's diet is eels, frogs, mice, and other small animals.
